Cindystock 8 - It was Illuminating!
Recap of July 30, 2011
The annual concert to raise funds for Cancer Screening and Cancer support services was a huge success!
Thanks to your extremely generous donations from Cindystock, Pittsburgh Day of Giving, the United Way Campaign and a Christmas raffle we have distributed over $13,000 for Cancer Screening Tests and Cancer Support Services. Funds were distributed among Obediah Cole Foundation, Adagio Health and UPCI, Cancer Caring Center, Satchels of Caring and The Cancer Project. We also helped set up a memorial college fund for Kim McElroy’s family.
All the bands were extraordinary - thanks to Incendio, Brooke Annibale, the Bereznak Brothers, Maura Elyse and special thanks to the Mark Ferrari Duo who stepped in at the last minute for Ellen Bukstel. She was unable to join us and we send out our very best wishes to her and her family. Thanks also to Maura for leading and Incendio for playing along for the candlelight ceremony to "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler" - Dan Fogelberg's song which is our traditional ending where we celebrate cancer survivors while chiming out the final chorus - "there's a light in the depths of your darkness, let it shine". It certainly did!
Many thanks to Walnut Grove, Bravo and Atrias, Ritas, Cancer Project and Don Slekar which all provided delicious and bountiful amounts of food, smoothies and ice.
Guests heard from the many organizations our efforts support and were also treated to a wonderful talk shared by our special guest Pat DiCesare as he told of bringing Janis Joplin and the Beatles to Pittsburgh. This accompanied an autographed article and a signed photo by Henry Diltz of Janis at Woodstock. Other prizes included many overnight stays, golf, restaurants, liquors (still the favorite) and many other noteable items patiently acquired by Renee Adams.
Of course the event couldn't happen without the support of family and friends and volunteers who were skillfully lead by our own volunteer coordinator angel - Kim Howell.
